Volunteering Bureau
The "Bureau"...
The aim of the Volunteer Bureau is to assist disabled people to find out more about volunteering opportunities available in Preston and the surrounding areas.
We have access to a database of opportunities available in the county which we will discuss with you. Alternatively, you may already have identified volunteering which interests you. We can help you to access it.
Once you have identified a volunteering role you consider suitable, we will help you to access the opportunity and offer support to ensure that everything continues to go well in your volunteering experience.
How will I benefit from being a volunteer?
It is well recognised that volunteering can play vital part in helping people to move forward.
For instance, volunteering can help you to:
- meet new people and make friends
- help improve your community and make a difference
- gain valuable skills and experience
- build your confidence and self esteem
- add to your CV
We can help you by…
- arranging appointments to discuss your volunteering interests
- assisting you to make contact with organisations that provide volunteering opportunities
- assisting you to complete application forms
- accompanying you to interviews
- providing a volunteer ‘buddy’ to support you in your placement
- keeping in touch to ensure you are still enjoying your volunteering role
What else do we do?
- Developing volunteering opportunities -by working creatively with organisations that provide volunteering opportunities to identify and create worthwhile volunteering roles.
- Support in developing good practice – by providing advice, training and support for organisations working with disabled volunteers
- If you are an organisation supporting a disabled person who has expressed an interest in volunteering, please contact us to find out how we can assist.
