Re-employing Remploy Project 1

DENW is working with the Government Office for Disability Issues and their Community Support Fund to assist those people in Preston recently made redundant by Remploy.

This is a new project aiming to ‘link-in" the ex employees into community activities and ensuring they are aware of services available and not falling through the net.    Regular informal sessions are being held and coffee mornings every 6 weeks, inviting all 18 individuals where they can also access our information and advice service and introduce them to other training, events or network meetings we have. This has worked well to date and we have engaged with 8 of the past workforce.

A big discussion point at the sessions is always the factory they worked in, because of this we've decided to focus on the history of the factory. Lancashire Archives (through their "sound archives" have offered to help with this.  It will and it can run alongside the project steered by DENW's Disable People's Forum during Mental Health Week and UK Disability History Month in Nov/Dec 2013.

We'll post more updates as the project develops.
