Disability Equality NW is pleased to offer the following

One day courses and events (in conjunction with Lancashire Adult Learning)

 All courses and events to be held at the DENW accessible centre 103/4 Church St, Preston unless otherwise stated.

 

Basic ICT (Part 1) – First steps to Computing

Tuesday 13th September 2011 (9.30 – 3.30)

One day course introducing connecting to the Internet and exploring the World Wide Web, computer file management, using Microsoft Office (Word) and saving work.

 

Dance Workshop

(St Cuthbert’s Church, Fulwood)

Friday 16th September 2011 (10.30-1.00)

Gain a better understanding of the different dance genres.  Gain a better understanding of disabled people and dance generally.  Understand their own access needs in relation to dance.  Understand the process of learning a Dance routine.  Know the steps for and take part in at least one dance routine.  Be more confident in undertaking any physical activity, particularly in relation to dance.

 

Disability Rights/Building Capacity to Challenge

(St Cuthbert’s Church, Fulwood)

Friday 23rd September 2011 (10.00 – 3.00)

A one day course to learn about Disability Rights and raise capacity to challenge.

 

Coffee Morning/Drop In - Independent Living

Thursday 29th September 2011(10.00 -1.00)

Independent living advice and information, done on a ‘coffee morning' basis to allow for informal discussions.

 

Deaf Communication Training

Thursday 13th October 2011 (9.30 – 4.00)

A one day course, covers what is deafness, statistics, what it sounds like to be deaf, how to recognise someone is deaf, barriers to communication, communication preferences, and why, the impact of the environment on communication, practical skills in communicating with a deaf person.

 

Coffee Morning/Drop In- Health and Well Being

Tuesday 18th October (10.00 – 1.00)

Health and Well Being advice and information including healthy diet and exercise.

 

Basic ICT (Part 2) - Introduction to Graphic Design

Thursday 27th October 2011 (9.30 – 3.30)

A one day course researching design, drawing design ideas – digitally capture and manipulate design adding text and images using a computer.

 

Vulnerable Adult and Safeguarding Training

Tuesday 8th November 2011 (9.30 – 4.00)

A one day course in Vulnerable Adult and Safeguarding Training

 

Confidence Building

Tuesday 22nd November 2011 (9.30 – 4.00)

A one day course in Confidence Building

 

Celebrating Disability History Month

(St. John’s Minster, Church Street, Preston)

Friday 2nd December 2011 (10.00 – 2.00)

Taster workshops, Disability Rights, Health & Wellbeing and benefits information.


Deaf Communication Training

Thursday 26th January 2012 (9.30 – 4.00)

All courses are free but booking is essential as places are limited.

Disabled People's Network

Disability Equality NW is continuing with the new network called the Disabled People’s Network. The Network is a free service open to anyone with a disability living in the North West.

At the Network we:

  • Meet and make new friends
  • Discuss issues facing disabled people
  • Learn new skills and gain new experiences
  • Have guest speakers
  • Do art and other activities
  • Drink tea or coffee and chat

You are very welcome to join us!

Meetings are once a month on a Tuesday from 1 – 5.00pm
