The BBC's Face of Disability ?

No TV license fee for Deaf and disabled people : E-Petition 1

  • Q1. How many times have you seen a Deaf person ask questions on 'BBC Question Time'?
  • Q2. How many new disabled presenters are there on mainstream BBC TV programmes?

Answers to  1 & 2 = NONE!

2011 statistics show that disabled people only account for 3.8% of the BBC's 17000 workforce !

No wonder 50% of disabled people are out of work and disability is top of the hate crime statistics, because the public doesn't see disabled people as part of society because the BBC simply refuse to include us as part of the 'face of Britain'.

Instead they stereotype disability as something to make fun of (Little Britain,) or be condescending about  -

recently the BBC advertised a programme called Stormcatcher with this headline, “Sam Hall extraordinary stormchaser and Epidermolysis Bullosa sufferer.”!

£145.50 is a not inconsiderable sum for Deaf and disabled people to find, yet they still have to pay a license fee, which means even if they switch channels they can never effectively turn BBC TV off!

So why should they have to pay if their not represented on TV?

Channel 4 are making great strides in employing disabled presenters and Noel Edmunds, 'Deal Or No Deal'  is totally inclusive yet they don't charge a license fee.

Your M.P is now aware of the campaign and many support it but they will need you as their constituent to contact them to please ask for their support.
