Disability Equality NW - Information Day a big success

We held our annual Information Day on Friday 15th July.  Over 80 people attended including portfolio holders from Preston City Council.

Members heard a presentation from DENW's Information and Advice Service about how the Welfare Reform Act is changing the way in which benefits will be delivered.  This includes the proposed replacement of DLA with the new Personal Independence Payment.  This move is still being developed and DENW is feeding our members' concerns into the process.  The next stage will be a further draft of the new assessment criteria in October.

Resources used in the presentation can be viewed or downloaded by clicking on the event in the Events calendar.

Members also listened to a presentation raising awareness of lung cancer and promoting a new scheme to encourage people to seek check ups from their GPs.

Lancashire Constabulary were also in attendance and updated Members about the work being undertaken by them to combat disability hate crime.

A full programme of the day can be downloaded from the event calendar by clicking on 15the July 2011.
