Preston Healthy City Action Plan

The World Health Organisation (WHO) International Healthy Cities movement exists to promote and improve population health at city and town levels. It requires local government and partnership agencies to work in collaboration to make a commitment to health and sustainable development, through political leadership and formal structures.

Preston was designated a Healthy City of Phase V in 2009. The city’s vision is ‘To Make Preston The Third City Of The North West by 2012’ and thus making a commitment to focus on reducing inequalities arising from gender, age, disability, ethnicity, faith, sexuality and location within Preston and increasing accessibility to services and thereby maintain cohesive communities. The reduction of inequalities is reflected throughout the themes in the Preston Community Strategy.

Disability Lib Rainbow Health Report

As a result of recent legislation, such as “The Equality Act 2007”, local Primary Care Trusts and NHS bodies have undertaken research into the needs of the LGBT community.

Bradford’s Equity Partnership (2007) looked at how many people accessed services, their accessibility and people’s understanding of them. Blackburn with Darwen looked at LGBT employees of Blackburn with Darwen NHS and the local LGBT community’s take-up of local NHS services.

Positive Thinking About Disability Weekend

Fourteen Volunteers and Staff went to the Calvert Trust Centre in the Lake District this last weekend as Part of the Positive Thinking about Disability Course run by DENW.

Team Building Weekend

Horse Riding, Sailing, Rock and Rope, Archery and Enjoyment of the Lake District Scenery to Compliment the Team building weekend.
